The Department of Computer Science & Engineering is functioning at Govt. College of Engineering Kannur since its inception in 2001. Presently the department offers only UG programme. The UG programme is named B.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering. The programme was initially having AICTE sanctioned intake of 30 students. The AICTE sanctioned intake was increased to 60 students in 2011. The department currently runs four batches of UG programme per year. Students are well placed through campus placement and few are also selected for higher studies in reputed institutions. The sanctioned posts of faculty members is 10 and that for support staff is 5. The sanctioned faculty post pattern is Professor (1 No), Associate Professor (2 Nos), and Assistant Professor (7 Nos). The Department of Computer Science and Engineering has one of the best facilities.
The UG program offered by the department, namely B. Tech. in Computer Science & Engineering, is currently affiliated to both Kannur University and A.P.J Abdul Kalam Technological University (formerly Kerala Technological University). It is a four-year programme consisting of eight semesters. At present eight and sixth semester UG programme batches are following Kannur University curriculum and syllabus. Where as the second and fourth semester UG programme batches are following A.P.J Abdul Kalam Technological University curriculum and syllabus. The first and second semesters have common syllabi for all branches except a few courses. From third to eighth semester, the syllabi covers almost all fields of Computer Science namely Computer Programming, Data Structures and Algorithms, Theory of Computation, Operating System, Database Management Systems, Computer Networks etc. The internal evaluation for each course is based on Continuous Assessment (CA) and at the end of each semester, there is University Examination.
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering has one of the best lab facilities. It has a Central Computing Lab in the Main Block of the College, supported by 6 specialised labs in the Department Lab Block.
