  Conditions For Admission


Conditions for admission are the same as the conditions for admission to the other degree courses in the university.


  Duration of the Program


The course for B.Tech (Engineering) degree shall extend over a period of four academic years comprising of eight semesters. The first and second semester which shall be combined and each semester from third semester onwards shall cover the groups of subjects as given in the curriculum and scheme of examination given in the appendix of university ordinance.


  Eligibility For the Degree


No candidate shall be eligible for the B-Tech(Engineering)degree unless he has undergone the prescribed course of study of the period of not less than four academic years in an institution affiliated to the University of Calicut and has passed the examination in all the seven groups.


  Branches of Study


At the time of admission a will be offered any one of the following branches of study and such other branches of study as may be instituted from time to time.


 Civil
 Mechanical
 Electrical & Electronics
 Electronics & Communication
 Computer Science & Engineering


  Subjects of Study


The subjects of study shall be both theory and practical and shall be in accordance with the syllabi prescribed.


  Electives


All students shall choose two electives-one each in seventh and eighth semester from asset of electives offered by the institution.


  Internal Assessment


All sessional work shall be valued and marks awarded as specified in the respective syllabus.


  Examination


There shall be university examinations at the end of the first academic year, and at the end of every semester from third semester onwards in subjects as prescribed under the respective of examinations. Every candidate shall register for the examination. A candidate who does not register for the examination shall not be permitted to attend next semester.


A candidate will be permitted to appear for the university examination only if he satisfies the for the university examination only if he satisfies the following requirements.

a) He must secure not less than 75% attendance in the number of working hours during the first year and in each semester there after.

b) He must earn a progress certificate from the principal of having satisfactorily completed the course of study prescribed in the semester as required by these regulations.

c) His conduct must be satisfactory.

It shall be open to the vice chancellor to grant condonation of shortage of attendance on the recommendation of the principal in accordance with the following norms.

i) The shortage shall not be more than 10%.

ii) Shortage up to 20% shall be condoned only once during the entire course provided such shortage is caused by continuous absence on genuine medical grounds

iii) Shortage shall not be condoned more than four times during the entire course.

A candidate who is not eligible for condonation of attendance shall repeat the course.


  Minimu for Pass


Candidates who secure not less than 50% marks in subject at the university examination shall be declared to have passed in the examination in the subjects. Candidates who secure not less than 40% marks in the subjects at the university examinations and not less than 50% of the total marks assigned to the subjects, which include the marks assigned to the university and sessional assessment, shall also be declared to have passed the examination in that subject. For seminar, Project work and viva voce of the VIII semester, the minimum for a pass shall be 50% of the marks in the respective subject.

  Improvement


A candidate shall be allowed to reappear for one or more papers of a semester examination in order to improve the marks already obtained under certain conditions.


  Procedure for Completing the Program

I) Candidate shall be eligible to undergo the course of study in any semester, if he has completed satisfactorily the course of study in the previous semester, except in the fifth and seventh semester.

II) A candidate shall be eligible to undergo the course of study in the fifth semester, if he has completed the course of study in the fourth semester and passed all the examinations of the combined first and second semester.

III) A candidate shall be eligible to undergo the course of study in the seventh semester if he has satisfactorily completed the course of study in the sixth semester and passed all the examinations of the third and fourth semester.


  Classification of Successful Candidates


I) A candidate who qualifies for the degree passing all the subjects of the eight semester within five academic years (ten consecutive semesters) after the commencement of his course of study and secures not less than 75% of the aggregate of total marks of all the semesters assigned to the university examination and sessional evaluation shall be declared to have passed the B. Tech (Engineering) Degree Examination in First class with honours.

II) A candidate who qualifies for the degree passing all the subjects of eight semesters within five academic years (ten consecutive semesters) after the commencement of his course of study and secures not less than 60% of the aggregate of total marks of all semesters assigned to the university examinations and sessional evaluation shall be declared to have passed the B.Tech.(Engineering) Degree Examination in First Class.

III) For classification, improved marks will be taken in to consideration.

IV) Allot her successful candidates shall be declared to have passed the examination for the degree in second class.

V) Successful candidates who complete the examination in 4 academic years (eight consecutive semesters) shall be ranged branch- wise on the basis of aggregate marks in university examinations of all the semesters.


  Revision of Regulations


The university may time to time revise, amend or change the regulations, curriculum, scheme of examinations and syllabi. These changes unless specified otherwise, will have effect from the beginning the academic year following the notification by the university.


  Attendence and Leave Regulations


Students are expected to attend all classes without fail. If for unavoidable reasons, leave of absence is required, permission from competent authority should be taken as given under. Ordinary leave : Application should be submitted to the group advisor concerned who is competent to sanction leave up to a maximum of 3 days at a time or period beyond 3 days at a time, the Heads of Departments will be sanctioning authority. Applications for ordinary leave will not be considered under any circumstances, if submitted latter than 7 days from the date of return from leave.

Medical Leave : Students may apply to the head of departments through the group adviser for leave on medical grounds, within ten working days of returning to the college after leave. A medical certificate should invariably be attached with the application. The students should keep medical leave application duly sanctioned. In the event of a student failing short of attendance at the end of a semester, condonation of shortage of attendance will be recommended only if they produce record to show that leave had been applied for and granted in time.

Duty leave : Students are eligible for duty leave if they perform certain kinds of duty for the college (like representing the college in sports and games and involving in college union and Association activities etc). Duty can be recommended only by faculty members who are authorized to do so.

Duty leave application should be submitted to the principal, or the designated authority, preferably before the duty is performed or soon after returning from duty but not later than ten working days. After concerned authority sanctions the duty leave, the students should meet the respective staff members from whose classes they were absent and request them to mark duty leave granted in their attendance register. This must be done before the end of the semester. The respective group advisor also must be informed about the duty leave granted before the end of the semester.

The maximum limit of duty leave that can be granted to a student during a semester is 10% of the number of working days in that semester. However, in very exceptional cases (for example, representing the university or state in athletic events etc.), prior permission of the principal should obtained to get duty leave in excess of 10%. Students who do not satisfy the attendance requirements as per university regulations will not be presented for the university examinations.
