IEEE Student Branch

      The IEEE Student Branch of GCEK came into existence on 5 th June 2009. Since then we have conducted several programs for the benefit of students.

      The Student Branch is conducting a weekly seminar program where students present a paper for 45 minutes. This is conducted every week on Friday from 1.00 pm to 2.00 pm. The aim of this program is to provide a platform to students so that they get an experience in talking in front of an audience. In addition to the seminar program the students meet regularly on Monday evening to discuss matters related to IEEE and Student Branch.

      The IEEE Head Quarters is regularly conducting contests in various category in which students can participate. These are conducted globally and the students get a chance to compete with students from Universities from other parts of the world.

      The Circuits And System Society had announced a Global Project Design Contest in July 2016. We had submitted an entry and it got selected from India. It went to the next phase, the results are yet to be announced.

      In EPICS the Student Members will work with a non-profit Community Organization and High School Students on Community Service related Engineering projects. The objective of this Contest to increase student interest in pursuing Engineering related career path. The proposals for this contest can be submitted at any time of the Year.

      In the Year 2016, we hosted the Malabar Hub WIE Congress. It was a two day event and was conducted on 10th and 11th September. Around 175 students from various Engineering Colleges in Malabar region participated in the event.

      We conducted an IEEE Family Get Together on 17th and 18th February 2017. This was intended as a Farewell party to the Seniors and a Welcome party to the First Years. Along with Cultural Programs, there was two Technical sessions.

      A one day workshop on PROGRAMMING USING SCRATCH was conducted on 11.03.2017. Prof. Sukesh from Government Engineering College Wayanad was the resource person. 43 students participated in the event.

      We celebrated the International Women’s Day in a big way. The official inauguration of the WIE Affinity Group was also done along with the Celebrations. We conducted a Quiz, a Debate and two Technical Sessions.

      The goal of the Student Branch is to provide a platform for the students where they can develop co-curricular skills. The Student Branch stands for increasing the awareness of students in co-academic matters, supplement their studies and help them reach higher professional standards. It is hoped that the activities of the Student Branch will generate a genuine interest among the students in their studies.
